We are Sailing

Year six spend a day sailing at Stanley Head Sailing Centre

On 29th June 2002, Mr. Oakden took a group of year six children sailing at Stanley Head Sailing Centre. There were 10 children assisted by two willing parents.

We arrived at Stanley Pool, located just outside Endon, Staffordshire, at around 9.50. The first task was to prepare the boats for sailing. the instructors explained how to rig the boats and what the various controls did. Before very long all the children were on the water accompanied by an instructor.

As the day progressed the children took control of the boats and by the end of the day felt comfortable steering and giving instructions.

There was a slight drama during the morning session as one of the parents  capsized his boat. Mr. Oakden then had to jump into the water to right his boat, as it has turned upside down.

The day was extremely enjoyable and the children were all keen to sail again.
