Nursery Fights It’s Way To Friarswood

Will Friarswood possess a nursery?

Mr. Selby, the headmaster, is patiently waiting for replies from his letter sent out about having a nursery. Parents have been asked to say whether they are in favour of Friarswood having a nursery.

We asked Mr. Selby, the headmaster what he thought about having a nursery:

How will having a nursery help the school?

Parents of children in the catchment area take their children to nurseries in the area. If there were infant classes in that same school they are at to go to after the nursery, the children would stay at that school instead of changing to a different school like Friarswood. If Friarswood had a nursery, children would come to the nursery and continue on up the school years. This would then make the number of children go up and the school would get more money for other education uses.

Do you think parents will agree with having a nursery?
Yes, I’ve already had 112 replies back from parents saying that they agree having a nursery is a good idea.

Will there be enough staff to help and cope with the nursery children’s problems?
Well, we would have to hire a few more support staff and also have a teacher in there. But yes, I think we would manage.

Where will you get the money from to pay for the nursery?
We would get the money from the Government’s Education Authority. They would give us £40,000 to help re-arrange the Fun Club room and make it into the nursery’s classroom. New furniture would be placed in it as well.

The decision has not been made yet and we don’t know when it will be but we are sure that if a nursery is to appear at Friarswood. The school would be a better place and everyone both the children and the staff will be happier.
