How many sweets is it possible to buy?

Well, according to a new survey, A LOT!

UK has been noted as the sweetest tooth in Europe!

We spent a massive £1.37 billion on sweets in the UK last year, which is more than £23 worth of sweets for every single person living in the UK!

And even that doesn’t count how much money we spend on chocolate! An older survey showed we were Europe’s biggest chocoholics too!

The amount of sugary things we eat is overwhelming and doctors and dentists are starting to get worried.

The number of children in the UK whose health is at risk because they are too fat has gone up double to 20% in the last 15 years!

The men of North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (that’s where we live) have been noted as the fattest men in all of England due to a survey as well!!!

People doing the survey have come up with some ideas of why we spend so much money on sweets:

  • Because the UK is so cold we eat lots of sweet things to cheer us up.

  • We spend lots of time in shopping centres and cinemas - where sweets are sold.

  • We don't see sweets as treats, just as ordinary food.
